On December 17, 2016, our 6 month old son Everest conquered his first mountain. He had emergency brain surgery at SickKids and we're so thankful that he has come out on top. With his strong character and incredible little charisma, the staff at SickKids are extremely hopeful that he will have a full recovery.
That being said, our little boy wouldn't be where he is today without the medical help of the amazing staff at SickKids. From the speedy Emerg team that wasted no time on the situation to the Neurology team, led by Dr. Peter Dirks, that operated on Ev's brain to the loving nurses that provided medical expertise every hour during our 5 day stay at the hospital, we truly had the best medical care in the world at our little boys side and are so grateful. We also couldn't have got through this difficult time without our family and friends so thank you for all your loving support!
Several of you have asked how you can help us going forward. We appreciate any donations toward achieving our fundriaising goals. We recently achieved our first goal of $45,000 for a new headrest in the operating room in NeuroSurgery. We were able to do this by contributing $31,484 of our wedding dollars but the remaining $13,516 came from friends and family. We wouldn't have been able to achieve this without the help of our loved ones.
We will continue raising funds for NeuroSurgery Equipment and research at Sick Kids and invite you to participate in the journey with us. We are currently raising 34,000 to purchase the following:
Neurosurgical Mallis Bipolar
The Malis bipolar console is used for fine and delicate surgical coagulation to prevent injury to adjacent tissue by limiting excessive thermal spread impacting a smaller volume of tissue. Neural tissues are especially vulnerable to heat. The bipolar equipment supports the majority of neurosurgery cases. We don’t currently own one of these critical pieces of equipment (we are borrowing one until one is permanently secured) and without it, we are limited on the number of neurosurgery cases we can do.
As a result of your generosity, together we can help other sick kids conquer mountains just like Everest and one day achieve greatness!
