Another year of Living in Pandemic has passed and 2021 has once again been difficult for everyone on different levels. As many of you know our family closed our Bricks & Mortar store in 2020 and moved our business to an online system. Business is not what it use to be - nonetheless we remain committed to supporting SickKids Foundation since the birth of Nevaeh in 2006.
On behalf of our family - as well as thousands of other families - we are grateful to each and every donor - because without donations, SickKids would never have become, nor will continue to be, a world leader in child health care and research.
A Message from Nevaeh:
Hi my name is Nevaeh and I have been a SickKids patient ever since I was one week old.
I was born in 2006 and live with a rare genetic connective tissue disorder called Loeys-Dietz syndrome
The clinics that I am followed in at The Hospital for Sick Children are Cardiology, Cardiac Surgery, Thoracic Surgery, Orthopaedics, Allergies, Gastroenterology, Endocrinology, Respirology, Neurosurgery, Ophthalmology, Dentistry, General Surgery and Genetics.
I have had dozens of MRI’s, eight orthopedic surgeries, 2 heart surgeries, several other surgeries and a gazillion tests.
When you are a child who lives with medical issues it just becomes a part of everyday life and you have to learn to just deal with it. It’s hard, but you just have to try and enjoy all the other wonderful things that life offers. It’s easier now that I am a teenager because I am able to understand how I need to take care of my health and can advocate and communicate with my doctors and be part of the decision making.
I have been a SickKids Ambassador since I was 7 years old. It all started with their lottery campaign in 2013 and then I was invited to be in the ‘SickKids VS: All In’ commercial that was launched in 2017. I have also been a guest speaker on several occasions at various fundraising initiatives.
Other then all of the great doctors and nurses, everyone who works at SickKids, has a very important role. It takes a huge team to make this world-renowned hospital function 24 hours a day, each and every day. Believe me I know - because I have spent many hours, days and weeks here. I am very grateful for all of the wonderful care that I have received at SickKids and will continue to receive until I am 18 years old.
🙏 Please support SickKids there is a donate button at the top of the page ☝️ 😀
Sincerely Nevaeh and The Topper Family
